historic silver mourning pendant with pen and ink drawing from the Rev. John
Wiswall Family, (1731-1812), a British Loyalist, evicted from Falmouth,
Maine under the Massachusetts Banishment Act.
And - Rare and Desirable Baseball Cards and Memorabilia
To our surprise, while searching through a shed in mid-coast Maine, we
discovered an album with rare early baseball cards, hockey, boxing and other
early sports cards, as well as a 1950’s Braves jacket, a Red Sox jacket
signed by team members including Ted Williams, and a Spalding baseball
signed by a Cincinnati Reds team in the 1950’s - all from the same
Maine Estate to be included in this fine and diverse auction.

| RARE 18th C MOURNING PENDANT FROM THE JOHN WISWALL FAMILY: 1.5” x 1.25”, coin silver case attributed to Samuel Minot, (Wiswall’s first wife was Mercy Minot), pen and ink on paper depicting woman standing beside monument with angel above, bright cut inscriptions verso, Mercy Wiswall Ob. 25 July 1775 AE+34 (his wife), Bradstreet Ob. 30 Jan 1773 AE+4, Robert Ob. 10 June 1773 AE+2, Elizabeth Ob. 23 July 1775 AE+9. Wiswall was born in Boston, graduated from Harvard College in 1749, became a Congregational minister and settled in Brunswick, ME. He married Mercy Minot of Brunswick, with whom he had four children. He converted to Anglicanism and went to Falmouth to a new Congregation when the Revolutionary War began. Mercy died in Falmouth and John was arrested for his loyalty to the crown in 1775. He fled to Boston where he served as a Navy chaplain for a few years. In 1781 he returned to England and in 1783 emigrated to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia where he continued his Anglican ministry.In 1784, he married Margaret Hutchinson of New Jersey. They had no children. He built a church that is still standing in Wilmot, Nova Scotia. His son Peleg became a Nova Scotian Supreme Court Judge. John Wiswall kept extensive journals and there is more history available to support the provenance of this precious object. | ||
